Kitchen Renovation - Phase 1

The tile floors were pulled out a couple of weeks ago and the new cabinets were delivered Monday. A couple of nights assembling some of the cabinets and today I was ready to get going with the cabinet installation.

Old cabinets are down and the cleat is installed at the desired height and level (I hope). White drywall patch in the soffit is from my investigation into removing the soffit. Found wiring that I could move and plumbing that I can't, so the soffit stays and the 42" cabinets are a no go.

8:10AM - The first cabinet is hung!!

10:00 AM - last cabinet above the refrigerator is mounted. 10:30AM - Doors are on, everything is level and my first set of wall cabinets are installed!!

Our Temporary Kitchen

The garage is a staging area for the trash and debris that has to be cut down and slowly disposed of in our weekly trash pickup.

7:00PM - 12 hours of work later minus lunch and dinner breaks and a trip to Lowes and The Home Depot. The counter tops are removed except for the sink area and the kitchen is ready for day 2. Tomorrow I will install the base cabinets which involves removing the plumbing under the sink and redoing that, start on the cabinets to construct the island, remove the chandelier and install track lighting, go to granite place to pick out the granite and schedule the measurement.....

Next will be finding and installing cabinet hardware, picking and installing the hardwood floors, picking out stainless steal appliances, installing backsplash tile, painting, installing baseboards and trim and..........

Crazy hair day

Today Emily had crazy hair day at school. She decided to use Sarah's idea and look like a Who from Whoville. Her friend forgot it was crazy hair day but thankfully we had a few hairbands and we put it up right before the bus came. Emily could not believe the reception see got form the kids on the bus. As she started to walk onto the bus all the kids had their faces pressed against the windows and they all stood up as she walked down the aisle. I don't think she was expecting this reaction. Here are some pictures and BTW if you are wondering how we got it like that. She has a water bottle under all that hair.

Spring in Her Step

This is Sarah's first year running track and she is proving to have some speed in those long strides of hers. Her events are the 100m hurdles, 200m sprint and long jump. Here are a some clips from her first couple meets. Hope to get some video of her running the hurdles but so far I haven't made it to the meets in time. The running is definately better than the camera work!

Trick or treat

Last night was trick or treat. The girls wanted to find matching costumes like ketchup and mustard but they settled for Greek Goddesses. They had a blast collecting treats and as always it is never enough candy. They run for 2 hours to see if they can get more than the year before. They achieved their goal and accumulated 5 large bowls of candy. I think Brian enjoys it more than the girls.
